Alexis Mac Allister featured in a no. 6 role in l's 3-1 victory against Darmstadt.
The Argentine put in a Rolls Royce performance, doing everything an all-round midfielder has to do: winning the ball and disrupting the opposition's attacks, recycling possession, driving the ball forward, creating chances, and testing the opposition goalkeeper with long-range shots

DEEPDALE, PRESTON // With so much attacking talent, it should have been a surprise that Liverpool played out another entertaining encounter with plenty of goals to conclude its pre-season, with a 3-1 against German side Darmstadt.
The opening 10 minutes saw Mohamed Salah score and then assist Diogo Jota, before Mathias Honsak easily strode through an offside trap and beat Alisson Becker to make it 2-1. That poor defensive moment saw Liverpool lose its way a little in the first half, seeing plenty of possession but looking very easy to cut through without the ball.
Darmstadt grew in confidence and Liverpool did not quite create as many chances as the first period progressed as the opening stages suggested the Reds might. Luis Díaz and then Jota both slashed shots over the bar, with the former's blushes at least saved by the offside flag.
Díaz put Liverpool 3-1 ahead in the second half with a classy flick after a Dominik Szoboszlai corner kick (the second goal from a set-piece delivered by the Hungary captain) before the Reds made six changes, including bringing on the exciting young winger, Ben Doak. The Scottish youth international was electric and really took his chance to excite again.
Here are the four things Liverpool.com spotted as the game unfolded and there were plenty of good signs from the Reds... and a few slightly more concerning ones too.

Sporting director in attendance
In the Bundesliga, it is far more usual to see a sporting director in attendance and on view at a game. Michael Edwards and Julian Ward did not do that, but Jörg Schmadtke was spotted pre-match taking his seat here.
With Sky Sports reporting that Liverpool has seen a third bid for Roméo Lavia rejected by Southampton, with that offer worth $59m (£46m/€53m) including add-ons, the German is set to be a busy man across the course of the next few weeks.
The need for Lavia (or possibly even a more experience, instant fix in the center of the pitch) was once again apparent here. Expect more news on that front in the coming days.
New number six experiment
Alexis Mac Allister does not favor playing as a holding midfielder, but needs must for Liverpool at the moment. Curtis Jones was on the bench from the start here with the Argentine preferred at the base of the midfield three (there was some suggestion of a slight knock for the Scouser, which might also have played into the decision), with Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo on either side of him.
